First Dress-Code Fly By!

Today we conducted the first of a new procedure in Sycamore Junior High called "Fly By". During a Fly By, administrators and teachers go into the halls at a designated time to look for violations of a specific part of the student code of conduct. Today, dress code was addressed.

During today's fly by there were a variety of violations seen, however some common trends were noticed.
  •  Students are not permitted to wear clothing that is ripped or torn, even if the clothing is purchased that way. Today students were given a warning for this and were permitted to safety pin the holes closed, however, students should not wear these clothes in the future.
  • Students (mainly females) were reminded that the length of their shorts is critical. It is preferred that all shorts at least go to the student's fingertips, however it is required that the shorts at least cover the student's entire bottom.
  • Leggings are permitted to be worn, however a top must be worn with them that covers the entire bottom, and preferably reaches to mid thigh.
  • Sheer clothing is permitted, as long as the student has another piece of clothing underneath and all undergarments are fully covered.
  • Tank tops are permitted, however they must have broad straps and cover the student's sides completely.
All students who were in violation of the dress code during today's Fly By were asked to change or remedy the violation and were given a warning. They were also informed that wearing the clothing again would result in a second violation and an after school consequence.
